2013 South Dakota Franchised Dealer of the Year
In 1957 a Chevrolet franchise was purchased in Onida, SD. In 1958 a new building was built for the dealership and in 1959 Allis-Chalmers farm equipment was added.
In 1982, after 25 years as the Chevrolet dealer, Joe Lamb passed the business down to his sons with Daniel Lamb being named as the principal. Business partners are brothers, Jamie, Jeff and Joey.
In 1985 the business was relocated to a new, larger site on Highway 83 and in 1993 the addition of a new 80x160 building helped accommodate the farm equipment sales and service aspect of the business. 1994 saw the expansion of a used car lot in Pierre, known as Lamb Auto Sales and in December of 2000 the Lamb Brothers purchased the Ford franchise in Gettysburg and Onida which became Lamb Motor Company.
With 56 years in the business, the “BOYS” are all grown up and the day-to-day business is split between the brothers with Joey managing the Ford franchise, Jeff managing the fuel and tire sales, Jamie managing the farm equipment sales and service and DAN managing the Chevrolet sales and service. Sister, Nancy Weischedel, recently joined the business helping with internet updates and anything asked of her.
Daughter, Kendra, is in auto sales and various nieces and nephews work during the summer and on breaks from school. The 30 employees who contribute their talents to make the business a success are very much appreciated and they keep the wheels turning. Joe and Dorothy still work in the dealership providing expertise and support in many areas.
Dan is a graduate of Northern State College with a degree in business administration. He has been active in community and industry activities, holding offices in the Jaycees, Chamber of Commerce, St. Pius X Parish, and South Dakota Auto Dealer Association.
Dan and wife, Colleen have three grown children and EIGHT grandkids that bring them much joy and laughter.
Dan loves the serenity of flying his 1939 J-3 Piper Cub complete with climate control…whatever the climate is, controls the amount of clothing he needs to wear to remain comfortable. Other interests include enjoying time on the pontoon boat, camping, and occasional travel.
After nearly 50 years of working in the family business, it is difficult to imagine Dan doing anything else. The auto business remains challenging, interesting, and very rewarding. If life really is what you make it, Dan can count his a success.
We congratulate Dan Lamb, 2013’s South Dakota Franchised Dealer of the Year!
